Are GenEsscents products antiperspirants?

No, our products do not contain aluminum which is what is used to create antiperspirants. Antiperspirants changes the body's natural sweating process by blocking apocrine glands. Its important for the body to sweat as this is the body's natural method for thermoregulation. Additionally, this is the body's natural way to release toxins from the body and keep you in a balanced state.

Sweat & Odor 101

What is the difference between antiperspirants and deodorants?

Antiperspirants work to reduce both sweat and odor from the areas in the body with apocrine glands such as the groin and armpits. Deodorants help to reduce body odor by reducing odor-causing bacteria. It is the bacteria which ferments to produce odor once encountered by sweat.

Will your product stop me from sweating?

No. Our products do not contain chemicals to stop sweating. Sweating is the body's natural way to release toxins. Our product reduces bacteria which causes odor. We include arrowroot powder to help with dryness but we DO NOT block your pores. Our customers report decrease sweating once they've adjusted to a natural deodorant.

Is there a detox process needed to switch from a antiperspirant to a natural deodorant?

It is not a hard-written rule to detox prior to switching but rather a preference. Detox can include but not limited to uses of bentonite clay, lemons, and/or activate charcoal. (Please do your research to determine the best route for you). Switching does cause the body to go through a natural period of adjustment which improves over a few weeks. You may have moments of increased sweating and/or slight odor but this gets better. Hang in there!
